The passion and love Jamie has for all of our animals is undeniable and it shows in her work! Here is what Jamie had to say when we interviewed her for National Zoo Keeper Week:
Question 1: When did you realize you wanted to be a zoo keeper?
Answer: “I have always wanted to work with animals since I was young. Growing up in Wyoming we did not have a zoo in the state so I majored in wildlife and fisheries management to work with the game and fish. When I graduated and moved to Arizona I decided to work at a zoo instead.”
Question 2: How long have you been a keeper?
Answer: “I have been a zookeeper for 17 years.”
Question 3: How long have you been at WWZA&SP?
Answer: “I have worked here for 17 1/2 years.”
Question 4: What do you feel makes all of your hard work and long days worth it?
Answer: What makes working here worthwhile is the bond you make with your animals. A lot of the animals we have raised since they were babies and have watched them grew up. Along the way we gain their trust and create a bond that helps us when it comes to training.
Fun Fact about Jamie: “Before I decided to work with animals I wanted to open an true old west town.”
